AM Lab Management Project Scope
One of my duties at ECSTech for the USPS was setting up and managing the onsite additive manufacturing lab. This entailed selecting printers and scheduling builds on the printers. I was also in charge of maintaining them which involved periodically leveling the bed as well as cleaning the nozzle whenever switching filament types. I would also review the designs and orientate them for optimal Performance for 3D printing.
I upgraded the printers and modify their PIDs to work properly with the upgrades. Some of the upgrades were installing flex beds to the printers as well as adding more reliable thermal couples to the hot ends.
I also presented a seminar to new Engineers looking at getting into 3D printing instructing them how to best design for the application such as how to minimize overhangs and support structures as well as how to orientate parts for the fastest print speed and quality.
I then reviewed designs submitted to me to ensure that they followed sound engineering principles and the requirements for being 3D printed I'd provide feedback to designers on how to improve their designs in the future to minimize support structure improve the overall quality as well as avoid overhangs.
